Overview: Use the data in the table below to complete the faunal section of your report. What might have been eaten at the Wingo's slave cabin? By using the drop boxes limit the data that appears on the table by species and element. Sorting the data will allow you to see which species are most commonly found, and which parts of each animal were found.
Faunal - you should try to answer these questions in the faunal section of your report:
- What species of animals were represented?
- What were some of the most common species of animal found at the site (by count)?
- What were some of the rarer animals (by count)?
- What types of bones were most commonly seen? Why might this be the case?
- How might people have acquired some of these animals?
- Which animals might they have preferred to eat – domestic or wild? Why?
- Can you think of other reasons why people might have used these animals besides food?
You can download the data here - or cut and paste from the web page into a spreadsheet.
